Every winter, people across the region pull out their shovels and stock up on salt in anticipation of the coming storms. Snow on sidewalks is a potential hazard to those with limited mobility as well as children at school bus stops. It also makes it difficult for those who deliver services to our community, including mail carriers, meter readers, delivery services, and emergency services. However, there are a number of people who simply can’t remove snow and ice on their own. That’s where Snow Angels comes in.
The Snow Angels Program is a voluntary snow removal service for senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities. The program’s goal is to help bring together residents who want to keep their sidewalks clear, but are physically unable to do so, with volunteers who want to help out their community. This program will run from December 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024.
If you want to volunteer, or are looking for some assistance with snow removal at your home, please register online today or call Newburyport Youth Services at (978) 465-4434
Are you a senior or person in need? Once you’ve joined Snow Angels, you can ask for help from your neighbors. It only takes a few minutes to give waiting shovels an idea where you live and a brief description of any important details. Submit your request here and we will do our best to match you with a Snow Angel in your neighborhood!
Sign up as a Snow Angel and you will be connected with a neighbor requiring assistance. Volunteers are asked to help one resident for the full winter season and to shovel anytime there is a ½ inch or more of snow. Local ordinances require that sidewalks be cleared within 48 hours after a storm. Some of our residents may require their property cleared earlier if they receive at home care such as visiting nurses or meals on wheels. Please check in with your assigned care receiver to determine their needs for this winter. Ready to make Newburyport even friendlier and help out a neighbor in need? BECOME A SNOW ANGEL TODAY!

No, it isn’t. Newburyport Youth Services and the Newburyport Council on Aging are simply trying to connect community members in need with those able and willing to help.
That is completely up to you. The person who shovels for you is volunteering their time and energy and you are under no pressure to tip them or give them a gift. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ might be nice though.
Contact Newburyport Youth Services at (978) 465-4434 and let us know so we can try to find someone else to cover the home you’ve been shoveling while you are away.
