Newburyport Learning Enrichment Center (NLEC) was developed in 1999 as a community response to a 94% dropout rate in public school students from the public housing. the NLEC is a partnership between the Newburyport Public School District and NYS. With a mission to provide access to services to low-income Newburyport families, we work to serve 44 public housing units with an annual engagement of 25-35 school age students. NLEC facilitates increased stability and opportunities for youth, frequently from transient families, who may not have access to resources and supports for their positive development.
